BM TRADA Certification is the first independent agency to register products under the British Fenestration Ratings Council (BFRC) Door Energy Rating scheme.
The products were registered for Q-Mark certified doorset fabricator Door-Stop International, based in Huthwaite.
BFRC Certified Simulator Mike Chorlton said it was “likely” that a minimum door energy rating will be included in future updates of the government’s Building Regulations Approved Document L.
Windows and doors can be proven to comply with Part L by having a U-value of 1.6W/m²K and 1.8W/m²K respectively. However, windows can also comply with a BFRC window energy rating of “C” or higher.
“There is not as yet an alternative compliance method for doors, but a compliant door at 1.8W/m²K equates broadly to a door energy rating band “E”.
“As with windows, many door manufacturers are unlikely to settle for a minimum rating, but will quickly aim to achieve higher ratings,” added Mr Chorlton.
The door energy rating scheme Covers various types of domestic doors, including single and double external pedestrian doors, French doors and sliding patio doors.
Mr Chorlton said achieving a door energy rating was very straightforward for doorset fabricators,
“Most companies require only a few additional controls to achieve door energy ratings.”
