Brazilian wood exports rise

The value of Brazilian wood product exports rose 8.8% in May, compared with a year ago.

The value grew to US$222m from US$204.1m a year ago, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation’s latest market report.

Tropical sawn timber volumes grew 3% to 34,200m3, with the value of those exports rising 4.3% to US$16.9m. Pine sawn timber exports slipped 17.7% to 53,100m3, worth US$12m (-14.9%).

Pine plywood volumes grew 14.7% to 104,700m3, with the value up 13.6% to US$40.8m. Tropical plywood export volumes fell 9.4% to 4,800m3.
