BSW Timber employee Mark Smith has completed a 174-mile bike ride for charity.
Mark Smith, who works at BSW’s Carlisle mill, and friends Brian Story, Lee Moore, Peter Brough and Ian Ramsay, started their charity ride at Ravenglass and crossed the finish line at South Shields (Hadrians Cycleway). They cycled 174 miles over three days and raised more than £1,000 for charity.
The funds raised will be divided between the Silloth First Responders and the Silloth Nursing Home.
Mark Smith, shift manager for BSW who lives in Silloth, wanted to do something worthwhile for a local charity and because there were a few keen bikers in the mill, a grueling bike ride seemed an obvious choice.
“We were all really keen to get on our bikes and help the fund-raising efforts of two worthwhile causes,” said Mr Smith. “We chose Silloth First Responders because they make a huge difference responding to local emergencies, and I think everyone has an experience close to their heart about an elderly relative needing care, which is why we decided on Silloth Nursing Home.”
