BSW Timber will seek to win over architects and builders to British C16 timber by taking part in the 2011RIBA Roadshow tour.

The sawmiller will host 10 CPD seminars promoting the benefits of C16 at venues across the UK, starting in Nottingham on February 24.

The move follows heavy investment by BSW in production, planing and grading technology for its Easi-Edge C16 timber, which has dramatically increased availability of the product.

BSW marketing manager Eve Johnson said the company wanted to change the way architects think about strength-graded timber.

“Typically, architects over-specify in the mistaken belief that the higher European C24 grade is a superior product,” she said.

“And while the higher strength grade is needed for some applications – such as load-bearing support – we believe that the vast majority of UK construction products could use British C16 timber without any major design issues.”

She said using wider section C16 timbers or decreasing the centres of the joists increased the range of applications for the product.

Further dates in the RIBA Roadshow are Bristol on March 3, Glasgow on March 10, Manchester on April 7, Newbury on May 19, London on June 9, Birmingham on September 22, Cardiff on October 22, Edinburgh on November 3 and Leeds on November 17.
