The timber industry most wants to see a reduction in the cost of fuel in the government’s spring budget, according to the Trade Trade Federation (TTF).
Mark O’Brien, the TTF’s head of public affairs, said: ‘Transport is the big issue as far as our members are concerned. We still think that transport costs in the UK are disproportionately high compared to the rest of the European Union.’
He said members were trying to be more efficient but the timber industry relies primarily on moving goods by road.
Meanwhile, the Construction Products Association (CPA), in its budget submission, calls on the government to carry out a fundamental review of the level and purpose of all transport taxes.
The CPA also encourages the government to reduce VAT on all domestic repair and maintenance to 5%.
