Business is returning to normal at Smith’s Pallets in Derby, where a fire destroyed an estimated 60,000 pallets on November 3.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have said that they believe the fire, which also destroyed two lorries, was started deliberately and are undertaking an investigation with the police.

However, the company said that it was “business as usual” following the blaze and that, although it had lost a lot of stock, it had not been unduly affected.

“The fire was Saturday evening but we were open for business Monday morning,” said a spokesperson for the firm.

“We got through the first couple of days but things are back to normal now. Stock levels aren’t yet back to what they were, but we’re getting there.”

Smith’s used hire vehicles to cover those lost in the blaze, with business “looking very positive”, according to the spokesperson.
