The latest edition of the British Woodworking Federation‘s (BWF) directory of BWF-Certifire fire door and doorset manufacturers shows a highest ever membership of 66.
Some 16,000 copies of the Summer 2002 directory have already been sent out to heads of all building control departments in England and Wales, the heads of all environmental health departments, timber and builders merchants, and an extensive BWF database of architects, surveyors, builders and fire officers.
BWF director Richard Lambert said: “The increase in membership is very encouraging. It indicates an increasing appreciation of the importance of this kind of scheme by those involved in manufacturing all aspects of fire doors and their accessories.
“The need to comply with Approved Document B has also made people realise the importance of this aspect of building safety.”

The publication includes 10 members manufacturing fire doors and doorsets; 37 manufacturing fire door frames, glass openings, glazed apertures or fire doorsets from fire door cores, with a further three companies undergoing appraisal by Certifire; 17 approved suppliers of Certifire certificated door closers, fire and smoke seals, glass, glazing systems and hinges; and two approved suppliers of materials.
The scheme’s newest initiative is represented by the inclusion of the first two BWF approved fire door centres – the Leebotwood and Ludlow branches of Shropshire Building Supplies Ltd.
