The module, the programme’s third, officially launches on June 5, UN World Environment Day.
The BWF said the content is designed to help “widen understanding of the role that repsonsible timber procurement plays in environmental protection, how sustainability means more than just environmental issues and the ways in which businesses can organise systems to prove the origins of the timber they use”.
The new module will form part of the BWF’s Timber Training Sessions at Sykes Timber in Atherstone from September 12-14. At the event Dr Mike Packer of Timbmet Silverman and Bob Bastow of SCA Timber Supply Ltd will also address the main sustainability issues surrounding hardwoods and softwoods.
BWF director Richard Lambert said there was a dearth of information on sustainable timber procurement and that the new module was intended to fill the gap.
“It’s possible for businesses, however small, to organise their existing systems to prove the origins of the timber they use to their customers’ satisfaction,” he said. “This is exactly the kind of practical advice the module will provide.”
