Calders & Grandidge has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation in recognition of its environmental management systems at its Boston-based premises.
The company operates a 46-acre site next to a residential area and the award recognises the steps taken to minimise environmental impact on its neighbours.
Calders & Grandidge environmental manager Mark Bartholomew said: “We import timbers from sustainable forests in Scandinavia and the former Eastern Bloc countries.
“These timbers are pressure treated on site and made into a range of products including poles for the utilities companies, sleepers and track timbers, highway products, construction timbers, fencing and hand made gates.
“The achievement of this award will allow us to develop our resource conservation programmes and environmental protection policies, improve efficiencies and will also lead to new product development especially in the areas of timber preservation.”
Mr Bartholomew said the company could now implement its environmental management policies through ISO 14001 together with its existing ISO 9002 quality accreditation and Forest Stewardship Council certification.
He added: “This will allow us to offer products sourced from well managed forests, sympathetically pressure treated for environmental protection and manufactured to a consistent high quality.”
