Two Australian forestry companies have set up a woodchip export marketing company to capitalise on their eucalyptus plantations.

Plantation Pulpwood Exports Pty Ltd is a joint venture by Timbercorp Ltd and Integrated Tree Cropping Ltd to market their eucalyptus globulus and eucalyptus grandis plantations, which combined total 167,000ha – the country’s largest plantation hardwood resource.

The forests are expected to yield in excess of 40 million tonnes of woodchips, with an export value of A$3.5m during the next decade. Japanese and Chinese pulp and paper manufacturers are keen on eucalyptus globulus chips for their fibre yield, quality and environmental advantages over natural forests.
