A careers promotion event held by the TTF Education, Training & Careers Committee at Arnold Laver Mosborough in June has netted a new employee for the Arnold Laver Group. Scott Dobson, aged 17, joined the company on July 30 and will be working through all departments in Laver’s new apprentice programme, starting under roof truss manager Robin Barnes.
Scott saw an item in the local press about the TTF Committee’s careers adviser event and decided to approach Arnold Laver Group regarding a career. “I researched Arnold Laver and found that it was a well-established company, local to where I live. I enjoy working as part of a team and with hard work and commitment I hope to gain new skills and maybe be promoted in the long run,” he said.
Scott joins Arnold Laver from Westfield School in Sheffield where his A-level studies included the Applied Business Studies Double Award.
Peter Howarth, TTF ETC Committee member and Arnold Laver Sheffield branch sales director, said: “It’s extremely rewarding to see that a small effort on our part can begin to change the image of the timber industry locally. It also proves that TTF members can gain a business benefit from working with the committee to contact careers advisers. It’s up to us to show that our sector is a dynamic industry in which to find employment.”
