Following the success of its inaugural ‘Live Build’ tour in Cornwall earlier this year, the Essex event reinforces Carpenter Oak’s commitment to demystifying timber frame construction, inviting both self-builders and industry professionals to experience the process first-hand.
With an exclusive one-hour tour by a member of the Carpenter Oak team, the event provides direct access to witness the craftsmanship, materials and structural beauty of a timber frame project in progress. Visitors will gain insights into both the structural frame and technical performance that forms a bespoke timber frame home.
“Live Build is about bridging the gap between inspiration and reality,” said Dan Wilson, Carpenter Oak’s design and project consultant, who will be on site for the Live Build event. “By standing inside a timber frame project mid-build, attendees can see how materials, techniques, and expertise come together. For trade, the event is an opportunity to reinforce the importance of transparency and quality in our sector. For self-builders, it’s a chance to gain clarity and inspiration for future projects.”
The Essex project is a substantial two-storey oak framed design that integrates traditional oak craftsmanship with structural insulated panels (SIPs), demonstrating how performance and aesthetics can be achieved simultaneously.
With demand for self-build and custom-build houses expected to grow, the events provide a rare touchpoint for clients, professionals, and the wider trade to see timber construction in action.
According to the UK government’s Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding data, as of October 30, 2024, there were 64,851 individuals on the register, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. However, the Right to Build Register (RTBR) reports over 130,000 registrants, indicating that official figures may underrepresent the true level of interest.
By hosting the ‘Live Build’ tour, Carpenter Oak is positioning itself not only as a market leader in bespoke timber frame design, but also as an advocate for education and openness in the industry.
