The cost and environmental benefits of timber frame as a modern method of construction will be demonstrated by Century Homes which is exhibiting a full-scale house at OFFSITE2005 at BRE, Watford on June 6-9.
The house has been designed with energy efficiency in mind – it features U-values of 0.27 which should comply with any future change to Building Regulations.
An innovative feature is that the house has no internal load-bearing walls, providing an internal space that can be changed by future occupiers and associated savings in foundations.
The system uses I-beam technology in the floor to achieve a “clear span” area. The I-beam also features pop outs to make fitting of services on site easier which is turn makes the build process more efficient.
The Century Homes exhibit will also feature its pre-fitted wall insulation and a new exterior brick cladding system.
