James Latham plc has taken delivery of the first supplies of Forest Stewardship Council-certified tropical replacement panel plywood from Weyerhaeuser.
The international forest products company said bringing TRP to the UK was the latest milestone in its sustainability strategy in Europe.
TRP is manufactured from eucalyptus grown on environmentally responsible plantations in Uruguay and provides a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to tropical and temperate hardwood plywood.
The rich pink/red colour is similar to many popular tropical species, such as meranti and okoumé, and the final product has CE2+ structural certification.
Weyerhaeuser European commercial director John Guerin said: “TRP from our South American base in Uruguay is a key product in a wider company strategy to develop markets in Europe for high quality sustainable and certified timber products.”
James Latham director Chris Sutton said the company was the first UK stockist to offer Weyerhaeuser’s TRP plywood. “We are pleased to be the first to stock FSC-certified TRP with all indications that there will be a very strong demand for the product,” he said.
