Global chipboard demand is expected to grow by an average 5% per year until 2015, according to a new report.

The “Global Panel Surfacing Business – Economic Downturn, Restructuring and New Trends” report by Pöyry Management Consulting also predicts MDF/HDF demand to grow by an average of 10% per year until 2015.

Pöyry is predicting a 2% average growth for plywood products.

Low-pressure melamine’s share of the global market wood-based panel surfacing material market is forecast to grow to 45% in 2015 as a result of new product development, particularly in laminate flooring but also in furniture.

“Veneers are expected to still show growth in absolute terms in some regions,” said Pöyry.

“Pre-impregnated finish foils are gaining market share in Europe due to a significant improvement of their print quality and performance.”
