Penelope Lloyd, a director of Clifford Jones Timber Ltd of Ruthin, has been shortlisted for the First Women Awards.

Sponsored by big names including Lloyds TSB and Tesco, and supported by the CBI, the awards recognise women who are “trailblazers and pioneers in business and are genuine ‘glass ceiling’ breakers”.

Ms Lloyd is responsible for the logistics and raw timber buying for Clifford Jones Timber in North Wales and its sister site, Hunter Wilson Ltd, in Scotland. She said she was honoured to be shortlisted for the award.

“I feel passionately about the forest industry and its survival in these difficult times. We must support our traditional rural industries, and encourage people to view our forest industry infrastructure as a viable career choice, regardless of gender, and I feel that these awards are recognition of the hard work and commitment that I, amongst others, have for the sector.”

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in London on June 11.
