A Surrey box sash window specialist has reported “exponential” growth after making the leap into CNC technology and installing an SCM window line.

The Cobham company, called The Specialist in Traditional Sash Windows, invested in a Windor 20 machine after reaching a stage where either the business had to be expanded or left to continue as before.

Owner Paul Kitching said he has now been able to take on contracts which could not be considered before, and “word of mouth” was generating more work for the company.

“We now supply other joinery companies which has enabled them to grow further, therefore increasing our own turnover which has risen exponentially since the installation,” said Mr Kitching.

The company, which has since added an SCM Superset Class 6-head planer moulder, now produces an average of 35 pairs of sashes (70 windows) a day in a period of four to five hours of machining.

SCM said more joinery companies were electing for window lines as the relative cost of such CNC machines reduces and skilled joiners become more scarce.
