Combilift has staged its inaugural north-west Regional Driver of the Year competition at Haydock Park, Merseyside.

The competition involved drivers from across a range of industries being tested on their ability to work and control the company’s four-way forklift trucks. They were required to carry a pack of timber supplied by merchant Beesley & Fildes around an obstacle course, including tight corners and backwards and forwards through a figure of eight course.

Mark Thompson, of home improvement products supplier GAP, won the contest.

Neil Beard, a field training manager from co-organiser Mentor Training, said Mr Thompson “achieved an outstanding score” that was “equivalent to a distinction on a Mentor Training course”.
