The dip, compared to a year ago, was even more marked (14%) when compared to the previous quarter, with decreases across all sectors.

Private housing orders fell by 1%, compared to a year ago, while public housing and housing association instructions rose by 18%.

The infrastructure sector saw new work fall by 22% and public non-housing orders suffered a 6% reverse.

Private commercial orders grew by 6%, while the private industrial sector witnessed a 17% rise.
