UK construction output fell by 3% in the first three months of 2005 compared to the previous quarter, new DTI statistics reveal.

Private housing work grew by 1% in the first quarter, while public housing was 35% up on the previous period. Housing repair maintenance and improvement (RMI) work increased 14% in the public sector but fell by 3% in the private sector,

New infrastructure output rose by 13% but private industrial work fell by 18%. Private commercial and public non-housing work descreased by 5% and 16% respectively.

RMI activity grew by 16% in the public non-housing sector but was 2% down in private non-housing.
