UK construction output rose by 4% in the first three-quarters of 2004, a DTI report has revealed.
The total volume of new work was 7% higher, compared to the same period in 2003, while repair and maintenance was 1% up. Growth in the public and private housing repair and maintenance markets outweighed falls in public and private non-housing.
New private housing output jumped 15%, while the public housing sector recorded a 24% growth. But infrastructure work was 12% down.
The industrial sector saw a 15% growth in new work, while private commercial output was 2% higher and the public non-housing sector (excluding infrastructure) expanded by 19%.
Repair and maintenance in the public housing sector was up by 9% and by 2% in the private sector.
