The council is supported by the Rainforest Alliance and will aim to create standards outlining how businesses should source raw materials and sustainable products.
An alliance spokeswoman said: “The home furnishings industry uses wood to create products that range from simple and functional pieces to real works of art. By encouraging manufacturers, retailers and suppliers in the industry to adopt sustainable practices, the council will ensure this beauty is reflected from responsibly managed forest through final production.”
