The Centre for Timber Engineering (CTE) at Edinburgh’s Napier University is searching for a new director following the resignation of Professor Ban Seng Choo.
The position is being widely advertised and a closing date of September 20 has been set for submission of applications, acting director Professor Robin Mackenzie has confirmed.
Prof Choo was the inaugural director of the CTE, which was launched early last year with the intention of: developing training for undergraduate engineers in the uses of wood; addressing the lifelong learning needs of those employed in the timber sector; and tackling strategic and applied timber-related research.
According to Prof Mackenzie, the CTE has experienced “massive” growth over the past year and can now call on the expertise of some 20 academics and researchers. Major initiatives involving the CTE include the £1.2m Scottish Integrated Research in Timber project designed to turn Scotland into a world centre of Sitka spruce expertise. The CTE has also been awarded £293,000 of European Social Fund money to develop on-line learning in timber-related courses.
