Davidson Timber UK Ltd has recorded its best trading year for FSC-certified structural products, with managing director Chris Skelton citing the company’s “clear marketing strategy” for the success.

Mr Skelton told TTJ that the company’s sales of structural timber products from Canadian firm Tembec, including CLS and KD carcassing, had “more than doubled” during the last year, with focused marketing of the goods a key driver in this growth.

“We haven’t been opportunistic and have developed a clear marketing strategy,” said Mr Skelton. “This has given us a clear view of who our buyers are.”

Mr Skelton added that Davidson Timber’s commitment to FSC-certified products had helped it increase sales, as sustainability is now a “prerequisite for the market”.

Davidson Timber, which also sells softwoods and hardwood flooring, is the sole distributor of Tembec materials in the UK, with the Montreal-based firm recently winning the FSC Canada Winds of Change Award for its commitment to developing a “wide range of environmentally-friendly and socially responsible FSC-certified wood products” and having 8.8 million ha of forests under FSC certification.
