A £7m investment is under way in Huddersfield for paper foil laminator Decorative Panels Ltd.
The company, which pioneered paper foil lamination in Britain in the early 1970s, is building a new 100,000ft² factory on the banks of the river Calder at Elland.
Speaking about the plans, Guy Metcalfe of Decorative Panels said: ‘We see the way forward as continuous investment to keep up with technology and grow the market.
‘The line we are putting in is the most technologically advanced in Europe and will take us forward. It is a commitment to our customers in that we feel that to be a low cost producer we have to stay at the forefront of technology.’
A state-of-the-art 90m lamination line from Hymmen of Germany will be installed and it is expected to be commissioned in October or November.
The company also plans to install two of its existing lines, currently in service at its HQ factory in Crosland Road, Huddersfield, alongside it.
Mr Metcalfe said 80,000ft² of space would be freed up at the Crosland Road site and this would be used to expand the decorative panels components business. The company has two other factories in the area – Milnsbridge and Longwood.
Decorative Panels has seen 20% corporate growth year on year for the past decade and
is one of Europe’s largest trade laminators of a range of wood based panel substrates including chipboard, MDF and thinboard.
