Fibre 7 has signed a deal with Thailand construction products specialist BuilderSmart for the latter to make and sell a range of products in its ‘densified plantation hardwood’ Lignia.
Initially the Thai company will use New Zealand-developed Lignia in flooring, worktops and as the interior frame of its Alti aluminium-clad wood windows.
A key factor for the decision to use the material, said BuilderSmart’s product development director Chris Cartwright, is its environmental story.
“We’re at the forefront of sustainable and responsible building materials in the South Asia region and Lignia is a viable alternative to quality tropical hardwoods which are becoming increasingly difficult to source with the appropriate environmental credentials,” he said.
He added that BuilderSmart, which also operates in Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka, has also had its Lignia products specified for a number of “prestigious projects”.
