Developers Bovis Homes and Urban Splash are to make more redundancies as the construction market continues to flounder.
It is believed Bovis Homes will make up to a further 200 employees redundant, although it was unable to confirm this figure.
“In light of the current market conditions Bovis Homes is currently undertaking a staff consultation to rationalise further the way the group is structured,” it said in a statement.
“At this stage the company cannot comment further until the consultation has been concluded.
Urban Splash has confirmed it is in discussion with employees at its Build North division regarding redundancies due to a slowdown in business.
“As the economy has retracted we have had fewer projects for our staff to go to,” a spokesperson said.
In August, Bovis Homes reported pre-tax profits down a massive 84% in the first half of the year, with revenue also down 43%. It has already reduced its workforce by more than 40% since the turn of the year, closing its eastern regional office and transferring control to central and south-east offices. It has also amalgamated the key functions of its northern region with its central region.
