Doman Industries is re-opening its Ladysmith lumber mill to take advantage of a duty-free window for Canadian wood exports to the US.

Around 100 employees will work at the mill, which is geared specifically for the US market, until mid-May. However, Doman cannot increase production too much as it is logging at only 30% capacity.

The duty-free window was created by a US trade law technicality. Duties are due to be imposed on May 23.
