Devon-based Atlas Timber Ltd has notched up a double first – the arrival of its debut consignment of Polish timber into a new location, Sharpness Docks at Gloucester.
The 2,500m3 cargo was a mixed shipment from Gdansk, Poland and Riga, Latvia – and if the Polish timber proves successful, Atlas intends to increase volumes through regular sailings.
Atlas co-director John Western said the addition of Gloucester is a strategic location for expansion into the Midlands and north of England. Previously the company distributed timber solely from its terminal at Avonmouth near Bristol.
Main volumes have been sourced from the Baltic states and Russia, but the company is now investigating different sources in and around northern Europe.
