James Latham is the latest business to opt for both FSC and PEFC environmental certification.

The company, which secured FSC approval across its eight branches last year, said all the sites have now achieved PEFC certification for both timber and panel products. The audit process was undertaken by BM TRADA Certification.

James Latham said achieving PEFC accreditation has increased certified stocks in volume terms by about 8%.

“This certification has enabled us to widen our certified product stocks significantly, particularly in finished birch plywood, and softwood plywood as well as European hardwood and softwood species,” said Latham’s timber products director John May.

The range now also includes PEFC-certified engineered hardwood flooring thanks to Spanish supplier MH Parquets also securing accreditation.

PEFC UK chairman Len Yull welcomed another big name choosing dual certification.

“It is obviously good news that the big boys are coming on board – we’ve also got Travis Perkins going for both PEFC and FSC and Jewsons are now expanding their dual certification from their Jewson International operation to other parts of the business,” he said.

He said more companies will sign up to both schemes in the near future.
