Vietnamese timber exporters have been warned to be ready should Europe and the US impose anti-dumping duties on their products.
HCM City Association of Handicrafts and Wood Processing said duties were a possibility in light of anti-dumping tariffs imposed by America on Chinese wooden products last year.
The association has advised Vietnamese companies to have their accounts and auditing data ready for inspection, as processors lacking such information could face duties of up to 198% – as many Chinese companies did.
Vietnam’s wood product exports hit US$1.2bn during the first nine months of 2005.
