The harvesting area for energy wood in Finnish private forests and related chipped wood production doubled in the first half of 2009.
Statistics from the Finnish Forestry Development Centre and regional forestry centres show that in January-June this year subsidies led to the acceleration of energy wood harvesting on an area of nearly 20,000ha.
More than 700,000m³ of wood was chipped for energy production during the same period.
Harvesting and chipping is already at the level for the whole of 2008.
Harvesting subsidies already spent total €5.3m, while wood chipping subsidies reached €1.2m.
