Environmental and engineering consultancy Entec has been appointed by the North West Forest Industries Action Group to produce a review of the woodland and forestry sector in north-west England.
The study will assess the economic importance of the woodland and associated forestry industries for the region and identify potential for future growth.
An action plan to develop the sector’s contribution to the north-west economy will be formulated.
Peter Wilson, chairman of the Forest Industries Development Council, said: “This is a crucial study that will define for the first time the real scale, breadth and depth of the woodland and related forest industries in the north-west.”
