A decision to start logging old-growth forest in north-eastern Finland has been condemned by environmental groups.
Finnish state forestry enterprise Metsahallitus began cutting roads into the 4,000ha Malahvia forest before Christmas and is expected to start felling trees soon.
The area, on the Finnish-Russian border, is regarded as a nationally-important area for birds.
