The European Timber Trade Association (FEBO) is backing an initiative which is calling for formaldehyde emissions in wood-based products to be reduced.
The subject was one of the main topics discussed at FEBO’s last board meeting held in Wiesbaden in October.
Currently the EN standard prescribes an emission of 0.1ppm but there are concerns that this could still cause formaldehyde emission problems and there are calls for this to be reduced to 0.03ppm or less.
FEBO is also supporting the Forest Stewardship Council‘s ‘controlled wood’ label which FEBO president Jörg Reimer described as “a very good tool to combat trade in illegally harvested timber”.
