Forest Education Initiative (FEI) cluster groups have taken their timber sustainability message to young people across the country this summer.

The Princess Royal visited the FEI Lincolnshire cluster stand at the Lincolnshire Show – the second time she has shown an interest in FEI’s work in the region. The Lincolnshire cluster also took part in the Boston Schools Environment Fair.

Meanwhile, the FEI Black Country Group spent five days at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre, focusing on the importance of trees and linking to a local woodland.

FEI president Terence Mallinson said: “We need to convince children and particularly young people that the timber industry has improved its environmental credentials and that it’s ‘cool’ to become involved with forestry and timber. We need their enthusiasm for the future of our industry.”
