The Finnish government is pumping €420,000 into a two-year programme designed to forecast development trends affecting the country’s forestry sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has chosen the University of Joensuu to start up the Future of the Forest Sector Forum, which comprises five working groups to explore various development trends and so-called “weak signals” in the sector.
Representatives from key organisations in forestry will form the memberships of the groups, which cover the environment, social sustainability, forest management, wood products and forest technology. Three national seminars will also be held.
