Fourteen companies have been named as being involved in unsustainable logging practices in the boreal forests of Canada by North American NGO ForestEthics.
In a recently published report, ForestEthics boreal campaign director Lafcadio Cortesi has named the companies he claims are responsible for causing almost five acres of forest to be cut in Canada every minute.
He said: “We are sending this report to large forest product customers and urging them to vote with their wallets for boreal forest protection.”
However, three companies – Alberta Pacific, Domtar Inc and Tembec Industries – are praised in the report for demonstrating a move toward better practices.
