Statistical information about British and UK forestry has been revealed in the Forestry Commission‘s annual publication Forestry Facts & Figures 2005.

The main findings are that the estimated woodland area in Great Britain at March 31, 2005 was 2.7 million ha – 1.3 million ha in Scotland, 1.1 million ha in England and 0.3 million ha in Wales.

The report also states that almost 12,000ha of new woodland were created in Great Britain in the year to March 31, 2005 and that 8.8 million green tonnes of UK timber were delivered to primary wood processors and other in 2004.

The amount of wood products imported into the UK during 2004 was equivalent to about 52 million m3 of timber underbark.
