Scottish forests were in the spotlight on Monday when more than 400 delegates converged on Edinburgh for one of the top dates in the international forestry calendar.

Scottish environment minister Roseanna Cunningham opened the Commonwealth Forestry Conference by highlighting the increasing relevance of forestry and the work being done in Scotland to help drive forward the global effort to tackle climate change.

She said the gathering represented a golden opportunity to learn from each other and maximise efforts to restore forests.

Other speakers include the Prince of Wales, Commonwealth secretary-general Kamalesh Sharma and Forestry Commission director-general Tim Rollinson.

The conference runs until July 2.
