European forestry ministers are to converge on Vienna for a summit to discuss ways of ensuring the economic viability of forests.
The Living Forest Summit (the 4th Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe) on April 28-30 will cover sustainable forest management; biological diversity of Europe’s forests; sector-wide co-operation and national forest programmes, cultural considerations and forest and climate protection.
One of the objectives is to highlight the need for an innovative approach for those managing forests in order to improve services provided to the public, such as recreational pursuits.
Some 90,000 public holdings of forests and nine million private forest owners are concerned with the upkeep and management of European forests.
