Royal Scottish Forestry Society president Sir Michael Strang has warned of a shortage of graduates to serve a rapidly-changing forestry industry.
Graduates could bring a ‘new thinking’ to help the forest industry to achieve an economic return on investment, he said.
The planned rise in Scotland’s forest cover would offer increasing opportunities for people to work locally, said Sir Michael in presenting prizes at the Scottish School of Forestry in Inverness. Inverness College student Stephen Whitby won two top awards, including the Tilhill Economic Forestry Award for the best third-year student on the HND forestry course.
