FSC Belgium has unveiled its first campaign to raise awareness for the FSC brand – and to encourage people to choose wood from responsibly-managed forests.

A recent market study by FSC Belgium revealed an estimated 13% of total timber imports into Belgium in 2007 were from certified forests.

“Some private consumers already recognise the FSC label, but there is still a long way to go,” says Maarten Debecker, marketing and communications manager at FSC Belgium.

The FSC campaign will continue through 2009 with point of sale adverts in several retailers and DIY stores. Meanwhile, all chain of custody holders in Belgium – nearly 350 companies – will receive the campaign materials.

“We hope to enhance the reputation of the FSC label and further encourage both private and corporate consumers to make the right choice with their wood purchases,” said Mr Debecker.
