The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) took its message to consumers with a stand at the Chelsea Flower Show.
FSC UK press officer Gill Harrison said it was the organisation’s first foray into the consumer market and the focus would continue through work with consumer magazines and retailers.
Many visitors were interested in the list of retailers that carry FSC-certified products.
Gardening expert Alan Titchmarsh lent his support by offering signed copies of his book How to be a Gardener as prizes for an on-stand competition. Those who signed up to the FSC were also offered the book at a reduced price.
The FSC stand was designed and built by garden furniture manufacturer David Craig using FSC-certified timber donated by the Duchy of Cornwall.
Among other FSC-certified companies at the show were teak garden furniture manufacturer Outside Edge from Gloucestershire and Burgin Conservatories, the first FSC-certified conservatory manufacturer in the world.
