The meeting, which will take place from June 25-29, will include key discussions regarding the future of FSC certification and its global strategy.

China has been chosen as the venue for the meeting as it has seen “unprecedented speed of establishment” and companies producing goods in the country are “natural allies to achieve FSC’s mission to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests”, said Grant Rosoman, chairman of the FSC board of directors.

Some UK traders have recently questioned the validity of FSC-branded plywood coming out of China, but FSC UK has denied that there are any problems with the history of products carrying the certificate.

More than 300 Chinese companies currently hold FSC certificates, more than anywhere else in the world, covering 700,000ha of woodland.
