A timber truss plant is to be built in Teunom in the tsunami-hit Aceh region of Indonesia in a joint project masterminded by the British Red Cross and Gang-Nail Systems.
Once built, the plant will supply the roof components necessary to help construct more than 2,000 homes in the coastal areas of Aceh.
A container filled with a roof truss manufacturing press, Gang-Nail connector plates, tools and materials is on its way from Gang-Nail’s Aldershot headquarters to Teunom where more than 10,000 people were displaced following the Boxing Day disaster in 2004.
The mayor of Aldershot was among those who gathered to see the equipment embark on its journey. The project will be the first of its kind in the Aceh region and will make a tremendous contribution to the rebuilding of the local infrastructure.
Gang-Nail Systems is a subsidiary of Eleco plc and Eleco executive chairman John Ketteley said: “We are delighted that, in partnership with the British Red Cross, Gang-Nail Systems has the opportunity to build a new timber truss factory capable of restoring homes to the thousands of families who lost so much.”
Maria Eagle, MP for Speke in Liverpool, is due to open a new Eleco Timber Frame factory in her constituency on April 7.
