The first full vessel of timber from German sawmiller Sagewerk Streit has arrived in the UK for customer Sydenhams (Timber Direct) Ltd in Poole.
The 2,240m³ shipment marked the latest expansion in the relationship between Sydenhams and agency UCM Timber plc.
UCM’s Nigel Fairbrother said Sydenhams had been sourcing 40m³ trailer loads of Streit timber for many years but UCM saw the opportunity to take the arrangement to a new level in terms of volume.
“Obviously this is very attractive business for Streit but, equally important, the availability of this volume of stock on the ground, coupled with the competitive pricing and high quality, will give Sydenhams a very strong position in the market,” he said.
The family-run Streit mill, located in Hausach in the Black Forest, produces more than 360,000m³ of sawn timber annually.
