Lamisell Ltd has supplied the glulam structure for Padstow’s new £5.5m lifeboat house.
The Okehampton glulam specialist provided 90m3 of the material for the striking building currently under construction at Trevose Head.
Lamisell’s contract, worth more than £100,000, involved the supply of 36m-span curved beams assembled in three parts. Components had to be transported by barge to the site from nearby Padstow Harbour.
Fireproofed finger-jointed structural decking was also supplied by the company to cover the curved roof, which will feature a copper finish.
Lamisell managing director Sid Lew said glulam was chosen for its versatility and lightness, as well as the lack of maintenance required.
The building, which will house the new Tamar class lifeboat, was designed by Haywards Heath-based consulting designers and engineers Haskoning UK Ltd and Cornish project architect Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole.
Lamisell has seen a 50% growth in its business during the past year, with demand increasing in the domestic, commercial and public sectors.
