The company’s sales also grew by 33% to C$61.4m, compared to a year ago, buoyed by increased activity in Stella-Jones’ core railway tie and utility pole product areas.
Net profits for the first half of 2006 reached C$9.9m, while sales hit C$106.3m.
“Our solid performance in the second quarter is a satisyfing indication of the ongoing strength of our core markets,” said Brian McManus, president and chief executive officer of Stella-Jones.
Second quarter sales of railway ties were up 65.6%, while utility poles saw 20.1% growth.
However, the company witnessed a dip in industrial and consumer lumber sales.
