Growth in timber flooring coupled with the popularity of television home make over shows has proved profitable for Haldane UK as people are prompted to add value to their homes.
The Fife-based timber machining company has recently seen increased business in the staircase sector and has responded by launching a dedicated section with an online price matrix for stair components on its website, and publishing an information leaflet to support its customer base.
Haldane’s ability to manufacture stair components in any commercially available timber – either as one-offs or as large orders – is attracting major interest from those looking to complement their timber flooring and make a feature out of their staircase. Customers can either choose from Haldane’s own range of spindles, newel posts and handrails, design their own, or recreate styles that are no longer available.
The latest move is the culmination of a £100,000 investment over the past two years which has seen the company redesign its entire process. Fifty per cent of the machinery has been moved to create a smoother operation through the workshop, increasing capacity by about 30%.
A 1,000ft2 mezzanine floor has also been built to house the glazing bead production, so freeing up space on the factory floor.
The internal changes have also enabled the company to offer housebuilders the opportunity to have components individually packaged for each plot, so reducing waste and unforeseen costs such as theft.
